Stakeholders meeting Tanzania
June 9, 2022
Not only were we able to reunify a child with it's family in Morogoro, Tanzania, in collaboration with the Society of Mehayo, we also organised a big stakeholders meeting.
100 participants from different organisations attended the meeting/workshop such as representatives of orphanages, Social Welfare, Government official, parents of disabled children, teacher, community leaders, influencers, the media and other NGOs.
It was an amazing day with a great discussion and a way forward.
We collected expectations before we started, and afterwards we checked if the expectations were met. The general opinion was that the session was beyond their expectations. They learned more than expected and were happy that they not only had to listen, but were able to participate.
Of course we also asked them the question "Just imagine you were to die today, where do you want your child(ren) to grow up? In an institution like an orphanage or in a family?" And then I ask them to write down why they choose for the option of their choice. See their response in the picture on the left.
Moral of the story: What we don't want for our children...
At the end of the day they all supported the idea that children need and belong in FAMILIES.
Hopefully they together they will make that change for institutional care to a family based care approach.
